When you start to learn English, you need words! What do you see around you? A lot of things! We use nouns to talk about things. We can touch them, see them, use them, hold them. All around us are nouns. To start, learn these common everyday objects in English. Each of the 50 words on this list also has an example sentence to help you practice. 

Household Items

1. Table — The food is on the table.

2. Chair — There are four chairs at the table.  

3. Lamp — I use the lamp at night.

4. Bed — I sleep in my bed.

5. Pillow — My pillow is soft.

6. Blanket — I use a blanket when it is cold.

7. Mirror — She looks in the mirror.

8. Clock — The clock is on the wall.

9. Fridge — The milk is in the fridge.

10. Oven — She bakes a cake in the oven.

11. Microwave — He heats food in the microwave.

12. Trash can — I throw paper in the trash can.

13. Fan — The fan keeps the room cool.

14. TV — We watch a movie on the TV.

15. Remote — I change the channel with the remote.

Personal Items & Clothing

16. Phone — I call my mom on the phone.

17. Wallet — I keep my money in my wallet.

36. Scissors — She cuts paper with scissors.

A great way to practice all of these words is to label things in your house. Put a sticky note with the word “fridge” on your fridge! Then every time you use that thing, say the word. You’ll know many everyday object in English in no time!
